Bowls and Plates....Bowls and Plates

I know that I've been a very, very bad potter/blogger recently.  I'm trying to make up for it by posting a bunch this morning as I hang out with Clarita.  Maybe that makes me a distracted father though.  Oh...the conflict.

Regardless, I'm just trying to catch up on posts that I've been meaning to make for a while.  I've been working solely in porcelain so far this year but I need to make a few things in stoneware this weekend.  Today will be spent throwing some more dinner plates in porcelain and probably a few mugs as well.  Then, it's off to the iron-bearing clay later today or tomorrow....I need to load a bisque or I won't have any room on shelves....or I can clean off that one set of shelves that is holding junk.  I think that loading a bisque will be easier.

It seems as though I've only been making bowls, cups and plates recently.  I usually gravitate to the more vertical forms so it's been an interesting change of pace.  Perhaps it's a fear of porcelain that has been bringing these forms out.

Below are a few pics.

here are some square dinner plates

this is another dinner plate....I wanted to try some honduran pot deco on one.  I love it but I think it is meant for a serving platter.  Personally, I think it's a little much to look at every day with food on top.  Any thoughts?

Cold Morning....Warm Start.

It's another cold winter day up here.  Seemed like a good idea to start it out with a hot bowl of steel cut oats served up in a bowl by Michael McCarthy.

I'm having some morning time with Clarita until Evangelina makes it back from some morning errands...then it's off to the studio.  I promise...and pics will prove it later today.  I've been working slowly this week but I feel like I'm in decent shape for the upcoming show.  I'm trying to avoid the typical freak-out 2 weeks before where I don't think I have enough work and then realize that I've made too much and will be okay with what I've got.

Inauguration Pics

Here are a few pics from Evangelina's trip with my mother to DC for the big event. They had a great time and luckily they weren't caught up in the purple tunnel of doom. Evangelina said that the stars were aligned because they just kept moving and somehow turned up at the correct security gate and made it in.

pottery and blogging resumes shortly.

Change

It looks like this.

TV Time

I was watching the inauguration on NBC today and just after the event they showed some pics of the crowd.  Here's a pic I took from the TV.  That's my wife, Evangelina, peeking out from behind that sign that someone else was holding.

The old joke on Capitol Hill is that the most dangerous place on the Hill is between Sen. Chuck Schumer and a microphone....but it may now be more dangerous to be between Evangelina and a TV camera.

Once in a Lifetime...

My mother received 2 tickets to the Inauguration of Barack Obama.  I hesitated when I was asked if I would like to join her.  Evangelina on the other hand now has plans to attend the Inauguration.  I can't wait to watch it on the teevee and know that Evangelina and my mother will be witnessing history.

Cocktail Hour

I thought I had text on this email post but blogger being blogger....maybe it is time to check out wordpress...all the cool kids are doing it.

Anyways, a few of these will probably end up as soap dishes but they're meant for the table.  They're small and thrown off of the hump...something I rarely do.  I guess I'm continuing to go square with everything.  I have some dinner sized ones to be trimmed and decorated tomorrow.  I'll probably call them "tapas plates" so people know that they're meant for food or snacks.

I'm slowly getting a groove going in the studio and when I have something larger or more significant going on in there I'll post it.  Hopefully the pots and posts will start flowing a little more smoothly soon.
